Annual Garden Contest Provides Inspiration

For the past four years, Best Way Disposal, Inc. has been sponsoring the Best in Bloom garden contest for gardeners across Kalamazoo County. The contest is open to everyone who would like to showcase their gardening ideas and skills.

"We sponsor this contest to encourage gardeners of all levels to beautify their surroundings. Novice to experienced gardeners, all are encouraged to participate," states Jay Woodhams, Marketing Director of Best Way Disposal, Inc. "This isn't a formal contest, and we want homeowners to have fun with it and to see how adding or enhancing a garden adds beauty to their property. This is a contest to enjoy, not to sweat about."

In 2007, Best in Blooms contest recognized 12 garden winners, one from each zip code in Kalamazoo County. The gardens must be visible from the curb; you designate which garden is for the contest on the entry form. Entries are due in early June with judging taking place from mid-late July. Winners are contacted in August. Entry forms for the 2008 Best in Bloom Contest will be available at the Best Way Disposal booth at the Kalamazoo Home Expo, March 13-16 and in April at Wenke Greenhouses and other locations throughout the county. Online applications for the 2008 Best in Bloom Contest will be available after March 20th.
